Double-chocolate sugar cookies: You can make these at home

Ingredients:

1 (12-ounce) package chocolate morsels

1 cup butter or margarine, softened

1 cup sugar

1 large egg

2 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup sugar

 

Method:

Melt 1 cup chocolate morsel in a heavy saucepan over low heat, reserving remaining morsels. Set melted morsels aside.

Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until fluffy; gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating well. Add egg, milk, and vanilla, mixing well. Add melted morsels, mixing until blended well.

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; gradually add to butter mixture, mixing well. Stir in remaining chocolate morsels.

Mould dough into balls, 1 tablespoon at a time; roll balls in ½ cup sugar. Place on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 400° for 8 to 10 minutes. Cookies will be soft and firm as they cool.) Remove to wire racks to cool.

Yields 4½ dozen of cookies.
