Top Five Things To See And Do In Uyo, Nigeria (With Pictures)

The food here is very delicious (especially the fisherman soup) and very affordable too. The transportation is cheap, and the people are very welcoming. If I’m given a choice to live elsewhere from where I currently live, Uyo would be a top contender.

I’ve only been here for a couple of days now and I love it! Uyo is now rated high on my must-live cities in Nigeria (and I’ve been to a lot of cities). So if you’re looking at a place that has a sense of community, where the city life is not overwhelming and yet, has everything a big city should have, then Uyo is the perfect place for you. It’s peaceful, the environment is serene and the roads are great!

If you’re visiting Uyo and you want to quickly move around the town to have a good feel of it, here’s where to go:

1. Plaza

Plaza is definitely the center of town. Everything happening in Uyo revolves around Plaza. You can go to anywhere in the town from Plaza. But Plaza is more than just a roundabout with a mini market and mini car parks, it has a facility that was built specifically for relaxation.

Once inside the facility, you’ll see a very huge LCD screen. It usually comes on when Nigeria has very important football matches.
There are corners where you can enjoy the game of table tennis and snooker. Plaza is well decorated with flowers and nice walkways. There is also a huge sit-out with tables and chairs and vendors selling suya, drinks, and snacks by the corner.
If you want to just relax, Plaza is the place for you.

2. Tropicana

Movies anyone? Yes, head to Tropicana. It houses Silverbird cinema as well as a very lovely lounge. Tropicana wasn’t as busy as I had expected it to be, and I wasn’t sure why. However, this is a great place to hangout, play games, and even have a meeting.

3. Unity Park

Oh memories! Are you a lover of nature and green vegetation? Unity park is for you. It’s a very large park. Some call it the ‘lovers nest’. Personally, I call it a ‘Peace Haven’. There’s a playground for kids with lots of colourful facilities for them, it has benches where one can sit down. It also has a very little lake where kids swim and just do their thing.
Unity Park also houses a museum where they display artifacts of AkwaIbomites.
Unity Park is the real deal.

4. Water Fountain

This is actually a roundabout where Nwaniba Road and Four Lane meet. It has a water fountain with lights that glow at night, and it’s really beautiful. But what’s super cool about it is that it has sit-outs on various sides of the road where people can just sit down and watch the fountain. It’s therapeutic.

5. Ibeno Beach

Ibeno beach isn’t exactly in Uyo but it’s an amazing place to visit. My experience there was nothing short of astonishing, you should check it out. Perhaps, my experience would make you want to visit there.

That’s it! Those are my top 5. Of course, there are certainly lots of places and things to do in Uyo, and I did a couple of them, but these are my top 5!

One more thing! You can’t come to Uyo without eating the fisherman soup (check out my experience with it), and the most staple food in Uyo, Chicken and Plantain. Yummy!
