The 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards held on the Sunday, 17th September 2017, at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles, California, United States. It was hosted by Stephen Colbert and the TV shows that scooped the awards are listed below:
The Handmaid’s Tale
The American TV series is based on the 1985 novel The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. It won the biggest award of the night, Outstanding Drama Series. Also scooped by the TV series under the Drama Series are Elizabeth Moss for the Outstanding Lead Actress, Ann Dowd for the Outstanding Supporting Actress, Alexis Bledel for the Outstanding Guest Actress, Reed Morano for Outstanding Directing, and Bruce Miller as “Offred” for Outstanding Writing.
Big Little Lies
This is an American dark comedy-drama based on the same-title novel by Liane Moriarty. Awarded for the Outstanding Limited Series, it lifted other awards under the same category. Big Little Lies took with it Nicole Kidman for the Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series, Alexander Skarsgard for the Outstanding Supporting Actor, Laura Dern for the Outstanding Supporting Actress, and Jean-Marc Vallée for the Outstanding Directing.
Saturday Night Live
SNL proved its survival will in last night’s event, receiving four awards under the comedy series and two awards under the variety series. Under the comedy series it got Alec Baldwin for the Oustanding Supporting Actor, Kate McKinnon for the Outstanding Supporting Actress, Dave Chappelle for the Outstanding Guest Actor and Melissa McCarthy for the Outstanding Guest Actress. The series also received the award for the Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, with Don Roy King receiving the award for the Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series.
Veep
The American political satire comedy television series was honored as the Outstanding Comedy Series. The series’ Julia Louis-Dreyfus received the award as the Outstanding Lead Actress in a comedy series.
This Is Us
The series’ Sterling K. Brown was awarded the Outstanding Lead Actor in a drama series. The award night had Gerald McRaney as the Outstanding Guest Actor in a drama series.
Atlanta
The comedy-drama series held on to two awards from Donald Glover as the Outstanding Lead Actor in a comedy series, and Donald Glover as the Outstanding Directing for a comedy series.
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver
The late-night talk show walked away as the Outstanding Variety Talk Series and Outstanding Writing for a variety series.
San Junipero
Black Mirror’s San Junipero won the award for the Outstanding TV Movie. Charlie Brooker, for Black Mirror, was honored as the Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or a Dramatic Special.

Riz Ahmed, The Night Of, as the Outstanding Actor in a Limited Series or Movie
John Lithgow, The Crown, as the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
The Voice, as the Outstanding Reality Competition Program
Aziz Ansari and Lena Waithe, Master of None, for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series
